Land Pooling Policy: Is it really Beneficial?

The population of Delhi is increasing day by day due to the opportunity that this capital city offers but at the same time there is a problem of settling down of such huge population and getting an apartment where they could reside their family. It is estimated that the population of Delhi is 1.7 crore and by the end of the year 2021, it might reach 2.5 crores and seeing the present infrastructure it is seen really a great challenge for DDA to settle the huge population.

To solve this problem a master plan Delhi 2021 is formed with the aim to recreate Delhi in such a manner that it is able to provide homage to 10 million people but the question is how DDA will able to do so and the answer is by land pooling policy, more popularly known as LPP.

.
What is LPP?

LPP is an opportunity that is offered to every farmer to come up with small parcels of land and get them assembled together for redevelopment purpose. Once the land is developed, 48-60% of the land is returned to the land owners. Whole Delhi divided into 15 zones, of which six zones come under LPP. The greatest among these six zones is L-Zone, Dwarka. Around 4-5 lakh housing units can be developed alone in L-Zone.

The benefits of LPP are multiple:

There are multiple LPP benefits, firstly it has out end to the land acquisition policy and thus prevents the increase in land prices. It will empower the public- Private relationship and thus help in the development of the capital city. It will also help in developing the neighboring villages like Dwarka, Narela, and Bawana etc. Last but not the least it will boom the employment opportunity in the construction sector. As the construction work increases and thus demand for labor also increases. Thus creating employment opportunity.
